Our next destination was the White House, home of the President. However, we are not allowed inside unless we are important figure heads, so we have to make due with a virtual tour.
Outside of the White House is the Rose Garden where the President delivers many of his speeches. Viewing the White House from the outside, the architecture is grand and exquisitely beautiful.
Inside, before you can even enter, you must go through a large amount of metal detectors and be searched in case you are holding a weapon. The safety of the president is important. Once in, the rooms are grand and filled with a lot of expensive furniture and many old paintings of the past presidents (ex: George Washington). Each bedroom has a grand bed and when entering the President’s office, the one thing that caught my eye was the desk.
The Resolute Desk is a gift from Queen Victoria and has been used by the presidents since the year 1880. It was carved from built from the timbers of the British Arctic exploration ship, Resolute hence its name. It is extremely detailed and amazing.
I believe that our founding fathers created the white house in order to have a place where the President could enjoy peace and quiet and to have a pace where the president and his fellow staff could congregate and hold meetings without the worry.
“Walking” around the White House some more, we discovered many other artifacts and enjoyed the entire tour and learning about the history behind the White House. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we decided to write to our local Congressman asking for permission to set foot into the actual White House:

Dear Miss. Lofgren
My name is Monique Van and I am asking for your permission to visit the White House. I feel like every citizen in the U.S should have the chance visit this place at a point in their life. I would be very pleased if you make this happen. When taking the virtual tour online, I was so captivated by the beauty of the White House that I wish to tour the inside in person.
I would just love to see the White House because of how amazing it is. The idea that every president of the United states has walked through that office at some time is just fantastic. It is also important to me because I would see all the things that the White House has held in the past centuries and how there are so many art work there is in the building.
Thank you for taking your time reading this letter and I hope to hear back from you soon.
Sincerely,
Monique Van
